What is Online Video poker
Video poker is not to be confused with slots, although it's also visually driven, that's where the similarity ends. Based on five-draw poker, your goal is to obtain the highest hand ranking through strategy and skill. You are dealt five cards, which you can keep or discard at your discretion. You are paid out according to the strength of your hand. By implementing the correct strategy you could minimize the house edge and claim wild winnings.
History
Unlike most online casino games, video poker is a relatively new pastime compared to its predecessors that originated hundreds of years ago. Video poker originated in the mid-70s, an era of disco, hot pants, platform shoes and, fortunately, the first personal computers (PCs).
The rise of video poker began with a certain gentleman, Si Redd, who worked for Bally Manufacturing as a distributor. Despite his position, he pitched the idea for an electronic version of draw poker. It was declined, but thankfully he convinced the executives of Bally Manufacturing to allow him to patent the game. Soon thereafter, he made a lucrative deal with the Fortune Coin Company and together formed SIRCOMA - an acronym for Si Redd Coin Machines. Just a year later, SIRCOMA changed its name to International Game Technology (IGT) and introduced Draw Poker, which only featured two pairs. By 1981, video poker was the most popular addition to casinos as players found the game less intimidating than a table game of high rollers.
Today video poker holds a prominent place at Platinum Play Online Casino, where players continue to rake in high rewards.
